When explaining how to begin a relationship with God, many believers refer to the ‘Roman Road of Salvation’. These are scriptures found in the book of Romans, in the Bible.

These verses outline the reason we are separated from God, how Jesus made a way for us to begin a new relationship with God, and what part we play in this reconciliation.

Romans 3:10 ‘As it is written: “There is no-one righteous, not even one” ‘

Romans 3:23 ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God … ’

Romans 6:23 ‘For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’

Romans 5:8 ‘But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’

Separation from God is known as spiritual death. It is a consequence of rejecting God and His ways. Jesus shows His love for us through His willingness to give His life so that we can find ours. You are not alone; everyone needs Jesus to be their Saviour.

You don’t need to do anything tricky. Jesus did it all when He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. Your part is to accept, believe and receive.

Romans 10:9-10 ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.’

Romans 10:13 ‘For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ‘ 

Dear Jesus,

I confess I have done wrong and ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay the price for my sins and saving me from guilt and spiritual death. Jesus, I believe You rose from the dead and ask You to give me a new life as a born-again believer.

I open my heart to You, Jesus, and accept you as my Saviour. I also surrender to You as my Lord and Teacher. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to follow You and embrace Your teachings all the days of my life. Amen.
