Competition Rules

1.⁠ ⁠Game Format

Games are 3-on-3, played on a half court. Teams consist of 3 players, with 1 optional substitute.

All games begin with a Scissors–Paper–Rock contest to decide first possession.

2.⁠ ⁠Competition Format

Teams are divided into two pools and will play every team in their pool at least once.

The top two teams from each pool move into the semi-finals.

An open free-throw competition will run before the finals.

3.⁠ ⁠Scoring System

1 point for any shot made inside the arc.

2 points for any shot made beyond the arc.

Teams will score 3 points for a win, 1 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.

4.⁠ ⁠Game Duration

During Pool Games - Game ends at 7 points OR 5 minutes, whichever comes first.

During Semi/Grand Final - Game ends at 11 points OR 10 minutes, whichever comes first.

5.⁠ ⁠Possession Rules

After each made basket, defence receives the ball. This is NOT a “make it, take it” format.

All restarts begin with a check ball at the top.

6.⁠ ⁠Clearing the Ball

After a defensive rebound, steal, or turnover:

Ball must be cleared behind the arc with both feet before the team can score.

Failure to clear results in a turnover.

7.⁠ ⁠Out-of-Bounds

Any ball out-of-bounds results in possession to the other team.

Restart with a check ball at the top.

8.⁠ ⁠Fouls & Physical Contact

Players should call their own fouls honestly.

Court supervisors/referees have final authority on disputes and foul calls.

Excessive or dangerous contact may result in:

Warning; Removal of a player; Disqualification of the entire team.

9.⁠ ⁠Conduct Expectations

This is a family-friendly event. The following are strictly prohibited:

Swearing; Fighting; Disrespect toward officials; Excessive trash talk; Aggressive behaviour.

Violations may result in disqualification.

10.⁠ ⁠Safety Rules

Appropriate footwear must be worn.

Stop play immediately if a player is injured.

11.⁠ ⁠Tie-Breaker System

If teams finish with the same number of wins after the Pool Stage, standings will be decided by:

Head-to-head result; Points difference; Total points scored.

In the finals, play continues until one team is ahead by two points.

Code of Conduct Agreement

•⁠  ⁠I understand this is a family-friendly event and agree that my team will maintain good sportsmanship, use clean language, and show respect to referees and other players.

•⁠  ⁠I understand that fighting, swearing, or aggressive behaviour may result in disqualification.

Safety & Waiver Acknowledgement

•⁠  ⁠I acknowledge that basketball involves physical activity and that my team participates at our own risk.

•⁠  ⁠I understand that 'The Potters House Church Newcastle' and its volunteers are not liable for injuries or damages incurred during the event.

Final Confirmation

•⁠  ⁠I confirm that all information provided is accurate and that my team agrees to the event rules, waiver, and conduct expectations.

1st place prize is a large sum of cash, with smaller prizes for 2nd place.

The $30 admission fee for your team is payable to 'The Potter's House

Christian Fellowship Newcastle' on the day, by cash or EFTPOS.
